About the MyCarbon Academy
The MyCarbon Academy is a structured two-year development programme designed to provide high-performing University of Leeds students with a direct pathway into a full-time sustainability consulting role post-graduation. This Year 1 placement represents the first stage of that pathway.
Role Overview
As an Academy Consultant, you will work part-time alongside your academic studies, supporting MyCarbon’s consulting, data and operations teams on live projects and business critical tasks. This is a developmental role with substantial exposure to the sustainability industry as well as a growing consultancy business with several departments and functions.
What You’ll Do
You will rotate across functions to gain full visibility of the business, such as:
• Consulting: supporting carbon footprinting, reporting and sustainability strategy.
• Data & Analytics: working with Excel, dashboards and emissions modelling.
• Operations: learning how we run a high-growth consultancy from the inside.
• Commercial & Research: market scans, client briefs, proposal preparation.

Candidate Eligibility
We welcome applications from both:
1. Final-Year Undergraduate Students
• On track for a 2:1 or First-Class degree (any discipline)
• Able to commit16 hours per week alongside studies
2. PhD Students (Early to Mid Stage Doctoral Researchers)
• Research area aligned to sustainability, climate science, data, or related fields
• Seeking applied industry experience alongside academic work
• Able to commit 10 hours per week
Core Requirements (All Candidates)
• Demonstrable interest in sustainability, net zero or climate strategy
• Strong analytical and research skills
• Excellent written communication and attention to detail
• Confident with Microsoft Excel / data analysis, or willing to rapidly develop
• Ability to manage academic and professional commitments effectively
Progression Opportunity
Successful performance during Year 1 may lead to automatic progression into a full-time Junior Consultant (Year 2) with MyCarbon post-graduation/completion of studies.
